Kay –
‘Ploughing Up Our Past’ is a fascinating account of the farming heritage of the four East Ayrshire parishes of Auchinleck, New Cumnock, Ochiltree and Old Cumnock, all of which share boundaries with one another, as well as common stories. Research by the Cumnock History Group from the Agricultural Revolution onwards is richly complemented with ‘living memory’ stories so generously and enthusiastically provided by the local farming communities enhanced with photographs of families, farms, livestock, crops, equipment to name but a few. In doing so, ‘Ploughing Up Our Past’ lays down a much-needed snapshot of a fast-changing landscape and way of life, which I’m sure will be enjoyed today and in the future! Robert Guthrie
